Under the Microscope: Advanced Poker Training

Hey guys, welcome back! As always I will be hooking you guys up with frank reviews on online poker software. Today, I shall be talking about Advanced Poker Training.

One of the oldest sites/software around, it has certainly seen a lot of action. It is one of the more basic software that can help players get a feel of the game and discover their playing style. When you are new at the game it would not be surprising to do due diligence and watch as many videos as you can. However, true experience comes with playing the game yourself.

That is where Advanced Poker Training comes in.

What does it do?

This site/software has an interactive training program in place. It helps new players dip their toes into the lovely world of online poker. There will be a breakdown of all the different terms, hand scenarios, and will even provide you with an analysis of your developing style.

When you buy the full software, you’ll be giving yourself quite a treat. This software is designed to save and suitably replay the hands that you’ve held or dealt. There is a “Brain Button” wherein you can pick the brain of any of the advisers on how they would deal with a certain scenario. It’s great software, and it’s not helping you cheat, just making you a better player.

It includes a deeper look at the overall factors which are considered before making a play. When you’re playing poker, there are so many other factors to consider beyond what your gut is telling you. As this is actually training, there are challenges put up weekly. Users have the choice to try their hand at higher ranked challenges to test their capabilities.

A useful feature is called “Beat the Pro”. This is about trying your hand at differently ranked difficulties. Each game is usually around 20-hands long. At the end of it all, you get a report on how you did as compared to actual pros out there.

My findings

So I personally like how at the end of each week there will be a progress or training report. This is a good tool for new players to use in order to get a deeper understanding of what they still need to work on. What accompanies these reports are suggested articles from their extensive library. This is pretty great in really helping new players catch up. I really appreciate the win rate report. It’s a great way to keep a positive note even if it starts low.

The cost of membership can seem kind of steep particularly for new players. However, it all depends on your point of view. If you are planning on going professional one day or at least play for money, there is no harm in getting yourself an interactive resource where you can keep evolving your play style.

When I got to try this site out, I was truly impressed at the tips that the on-site advisors provided. The autosaved hands are really a good tool. It’s a great method to keep track on the evolution of your decision-making.…

The Skinny on the Do’s and Don’ts of Poker Software Use

Poker is a sport that can involve quite a bit of money to it. That fact did not change when the online version of the game showed up. As such, it was quite normal to expect people to make use of software that could possibly better their chances at winning. However, that is not to say that getting money is the only reason why poker software is around.

Poker Software is pretty popular among players for a lot of good reasons. They can be really useful when it comes to analysis of the player’s odd and performance. In order for there to be fair use among all players, it was important to establish some pretty reasonable Do’s and Don’ts regarding software usage. That is what we’ll be discussing today.

  • Make use of an approved piece of software

There are a lot of online poker rooms around the web. Each one has its own list of pre-approved and banned software. Before you start buying and installing your software, it is important to consult the list of your preferred website.

  • Do not use software that enables colluding

That’s tantamount to cheating. This particular don’t refers to software that allows some players share a peek of their hand with another. This can allow them to work together.

  • Do not use software that collects other people’s player information

This is just unethical. Imagine joining a table where all the other players know every single bit of your personal tells and styles—what chance do you stand to win?

  • Do not use “bot” software

This sort of program takes over for the player and makes decisions for them. Robot software is never okay in any sort of online game and will be met with a permanent ban.

  • Do not use any form of software that allows live advice regarding the current game

Why bother playing if you are going to rely on someone else to play for you? An interesting thing about this is that streaming your game is acceptable in some sites.

Are You a Poker Software Newbie? Here’s What You Should Know

Poker has always been a popular game since its inception. When computers came around, it was only natural that poker would make the big leap to the online world. Since then, people all over the world have been trying to come up with ways on how to create good poker software.

Just what is poker software anyway?

Poker software, by definition, is a computer program that any player can use for different purposes. In my experience, the common types of software fall under three types: odds calculators, game trackers, and finally equity calculators.

Odds Calculators

These are primarily downloadable software that can be opened up during a game. It is built to analyze the cards on the board, your own cards, and even the betting sizes. The program then calculates the probability and likelihood of your chances.

In doing so, you are provided with helpful information on what possible moves you can do next. It’s a great way to build your strategy as you go along. You can choose to go with the suggestions or go with your own decisions.

It is important to note that not every calculation is perfect. It is still subject to human input.

Game Tracker

This type of software is primarily used to build a complete profile on the player. It is always a good thing to have an eagle eye view of your strengths and weaknesses. This is what game trackers do for their users.

This is particularly useful for longtime online players. There is a lot of tracker software that vary in the scope of their offerings of services. It would be in your best interest to shop around for kind of analysis program that works best for you.

Equity Calculator

This particular program should be able to allow you to compare two different hands in order to determine the probability of each in winning the end pot. While not all that different from an odds calculator, the more advanced forms let you single out cards that will no longer be part of the game.

Under the Microscope: Poker Tracker 4

Today, we shall be discussing one of the more trusted analysis software out there today. While it has had several incarnations, we’ll be discussing the latest version of Poker Tracker.

Poker Tracker 4 is software that makes use of a pretty kickass algorithm to provide a pretty good tracking and analysis program. One of the best things about this is that most online poker sites allow this particular tracker to run alongside their program. So you can be assured that this software is going to get a lot of mileage.

What does it do?

This software had everything that you would expect a tracker to have:

  • Hand history archive
  • Results tracking
  • Statistical records
  • Data analysis
  • A good heads-up display (HUD)
  • Odds calculation

Other than what’s listed above, there are actually more features. This software is compatible with most computer operating systems so it has a pretty big client base.

The interface is pretty straightforward. When you open it up, you should expect to see three tabs at the top: play poker, community, and view stats.

View Stats is particularly helpful. It is where the reports and post-game analysis can be found. Users can expect several secondary tabs within the stats tab. There is an overall results tab that gives a quickie look at how you’ve done so far. There are other tabs that provide a lot more detailed information regarding their progress. The graphs tab is a good tool to use if the user is a visual learner. It always helps to have a clear progress indicator.

The main community tab is a useful feature. It is where clients can get customer support. This is the tab wherein additional resources and discussions are found.

The Play Poker tab is where users can set up the automated record of hands played. It is also possible for users to upload their own recorded hands from other sources. Then, users can utilize the analysis capability of PT 4 in order to get a unified report.

My findings

Like most things, I consider to be cost as a big factor in whether getting something. The PT4 will let you enjoy a 30-day trial before committing, which is really great. The price of $159.99 can really seem steep but trust me when I say that it’s really worth it.

In the recap of how I’ve done in the View Stats tab, I found it really helpful how there was a filter option. When you play a lot of poker like I do, the stats can really pile up on you. So I found it really helpful that there were filters that helped me sift through the mountain of data.

What really won me over was the drag and drop customization of the user profile. It helped me really personalize the software

Under the Microscope: Holdem Indicator

Welcome back! I’m your guy John and I’m back to give you with your dose of real reviews about poker software. Today, we’ll be talking about Holdem Indicator!

This particular software is all about odds and calculating them. It really makes you want to say “May the odds be ever in your favor” Sorry! I really had to make that joke. So anyway, Holdem Indicator tracks your statistics on your opponents.

What does it do?

When it comes to searching for handy poker odds calculators, this software will have a 99% chance of showing up on your search engine. This is because the opponent tracker isn’t something that’s usually part of an odds calculator.

One of its best features is called the “Win Odds”. While not 100% accurate (because nothing really is), it provides a lot of insight as to why a certain result is given. The factors that it considers are:

  • Your hand strength
  • How many other players are in the game
  • The chances of their hand range.

The algorithm is pretty efficient and provides a good way to lower the limits. It will never tell you what to do. It will simply give suggestions on the likelihood of an event occurring. The

The opponent stat tracker gives you an idea of how people have played during the game so far. It’s a good clue on who is truly experienced and who is still green. If you were expecting something that permanently keeps track of your opponent’s stats, you’ll be vastly disappointed. Also, that would be cheating—so don’t ever do that, okay?

The user interface is pretty simple. There’s customization toggles to personalize the software to meet the varying needs of clients. The developers understood that not every player has the same preferences. Therefore, they made a lot of options to customize the interface as needed.

My Findings

This software is really handy in giving users an idea of how to calculate odds. It gives tips on what factors are considered when calculating odds. So it’s pretty good in helping players learn. Other odds calculators only give you a final result without actually giving you the idea why it came to such a conclusion.

What I found really useful is the simple presentation of the data. There wasn’t overly complicated jargon or presentation pertaining to the data. Holdem gives everyone the EV of their cards before they’re flopped. The EV estimates are pretty good compared to a lot of other odds calculators that I’ve seen.

With all odds calculators, it will never come up with “YOU SHOULD DO THIS”. Instead, it will offer you suggestions based on the information it has on hand. One of the best things about poker is that you can weigh your chances—think you have a good hand—then completely flop the next reveal. It’s a pretty exciting thrill. Poker has always combined luck and skill. That’s what makes it a card game that won’t be going away any time soon.…

Real Talk: Not all Software is cheating the Game

Over the years of being active in real life poker and online poker, I’ve come across the same discussions every now and then. No matter how much time has passed, it’s always the same thing: Is the use of software cheating?

While I will admit that there are some pretty shady software programs out there, not all software should be lumped together as a way to cheat the game and other players. As there is money involved in playing online poker, most people want to make sure that they are on their A-game every time. You can check out pokerchiplounge.com if you’re looking for poker software, they have a pretty good selection of the most popular versions of software.

Realistically this can’t really happen so software comes in handy to try to keep your instincts and gameplay sharp in the duration of not playing.  Software can even help you while you are playing the game.

Why use software?

Proper poker software is designed to help players keep track of their progress. It also helps to refine their process and method of playing. There are training software specifically made to help new players to truly get to know the game, the rules, and its different methods.

Software can help connect people together. Sites like Advanced Poker Trainer have a community wherein other players can discuss their concerns. I’m not going to lie—sometimes, playing online poker can be pretty lonely. It doesn’t quite have the interaction that you get when you’re face to face with other players. What is does offer is convenience.

Convenience is also what software brings.

Battling the Negative Stigma

I’m not quite sure just when the association of “software equals cheating” started. It’s frankly kind of silly. A lot of online poker sites that hold games are now quite strict in their detection of banned poker software. So even if there was some unethical toe nail out there that tried to run unethical software, the website will be able to zero in on whoever is using the program.

I’ve personally had friends who tried to get past the system and end up getting banned. They tried to get me on their side but no dice. Cheating is something that shouldn’t ever be condoned. Especially: in a game that a lot of people pride themselves in. There are thousands of players out there that take the time to make use of legitimate and helpful software to really improve their playing.

Then they get lumped together with those people who try to cheat. It’s rather unfair but it’s a part of life.

What we should do then is to enhance the awareness regarding proper software. That is actually also one of the primary goals of this blog. I want to blow away the notion that just because you use software you’re automatically trying to one up the system.

With every post I hope more and more people come to realize that when poker software is used ethically and properly, it can really enhance the poker experience. Not only will you get to see charts of your progress but you’ll also get to improve your game and win more money in the end.…

Under the Microscope: Smart Buddy

Welcome back to another review of useful poker room software! Today, I will be discussing Smart Buddy!

This software is pretty much a social application of sorts. It lets users create a buddy list that encompasses a lot of the major poker rooms you can find online. Users will be able to jot down the screen names of their buddies across multiple platforms.

What does it do?

In a previous article, I’ve mentioned that playing poker online can sometimes be a lonely experience. When you go to a poker room and meet some good people, you’re going to want to hold on to those friends. The old problem used to be that the poker room can die but the users are still there.

This software helps you keep track of all your friends through different rooms. If you’ve ever been one to use Yahoo! Messenger, this is pretty much like that.

Most poker rooms do have a friend list feature. However, you’re limited to only adding people from that room. If you have other friends who are already established in other rooms, it can be hard to have them port over to your room and vice versa. It is thanks to this software that users will no longer have to open up multiple clients simply to keep in touch with friends or rivals.

Smart Buddy has simple and customizable filters that can really help maximize your searching capabilities. The filters also help in keeping in check that friend that you’d rather not talk to or see you online. This helps those that aren’t all that comfortable with being so accessible all the time.

My Findings

I really liked how there was a notification at the task bar. This meant that I could minimize the program and still keep it running. So I could be in the middle of the game and still receive messages from friends on other clients.

I really appreciate the search field. Not to brag but my friend list is fairly extensive. So when I want to catch up with a particular individual, all I needed to do what to type out their username and poof! There they would be. All I would need to do is to double click their name and we could begin talking.

Smart Buddy’s cost for lifetime usage is pretty decent. What I kind of don’t like about Smart Buddy is the fact that they only work for those who sit at cash ring games. However, I see the wisdom in not working for scheduled tournaments. This would be a temptation for those who wish to collude.

So it’s pretty simple yet effective software. Don’t ever think that you have to play this game alone. Smart Buddy will help you keep in touch. Who knows, you might even find your great friendly rival in one of those clients and will want to keep in touch.

I’ve found that there is nothing comparable to the drive that a rival gives you when you fight.…

Under the Microscope: LeakBuster

Hey everyone! So glad you can join me for the first review. Without any further ado, let’s get to it!

LeakBuster, if you are not familiar with it, is an add-on item for hold-em manager one or two. It has a free and a paid version.

What can it do?

Leakbuster is software that can help you analyze any and all online poker hand history. These are some of the features that LeakBuster is quite proud of:

  • Ideal Stat Range Analysis
  • Stat Analysis by Position
  • Video Lessons regarding Stat corrections
  • Hierarch Ranks
  • Trouble hand analysis
  • 3/4 –bet hand analysis
  • Post flop leak analysis
  • Opponent Leak Analysis
  • Massive video and article resource

There are others but these are the ones I remember out of hand. It’s quite an impressive set and it can really be helpful for those just starting out. What I appreciate about LeakBuster is the fact that they will give you a free trial before having you buy the software.

My findings

What I personally like about it is that it draws statistics from your actual play history. I liked how it was able to give me a clear graph on where my own play style differentiates from actual big-time pros. Of course, not everything is perfect.

  • If you’re really truly just starting out playing poker online, chances are you will not have hand samples that LeakBuster can draw its analysis from.
  • If you’re not particularly enthusiastic about having to set-up the software in order to use it fully, it may not be a good fit. Sorry to say but lazy people will hate this software.
  • At the time that I tried this out, it only worked with NLHE and LHE cash games. If you want to try this out, try to see what upgrades they’ve done since then.

  • It works really well as a resource guide for Holdem Manager.
  • As I talked about earlier, this software provides extensive data you can utilize.
  • It is user-friendly. You don’t have to be a total computer nut to make use of this well.
